Where luxury meets learning

and everyone has a seat at the table.

The Art Behind the Society

The Art of Makeup Society was founded in 2023 when Jennifer, Trent and Karen recognised that while the Sunshine Coast had training options, none offered the kind of personalised and forward-thinking education that makeup artistry truly deserves. Too often, students were left with generic programs that lacked the immediacy and depth that face-to-face learning provides.

We wanted to create something different. A place where education returns to the studio, where artists learn in real time with hands-on guidance, constructive feedback and troubleshooting as it happens. In our view, that is how growth occurs and how confidence is built.

From the beginning, our focus has been on building an environment that feels both luxe and approachable. Every student who walks through our doors is treated as an individual, not a number. Each person is supported to discover and refine their artistry at their own pace, surrounded by mentors who care about their journey.

In 2024, we expanded our vision by opening GEM College’s Sapphire Campus. This milestone allowed us to deliver nationally accredited training locally, giving students access to qualifications that carry real weight in the industry without having to travel away from the Coast.

Today, The Art of Makeup Society stands apart as a community where creativity, professionalism and innovation come together. We are proud to combine cutting-edge techniques with timeless principles, providing training that is both industry relevant and deeply personal.

We began with purpose and continue with passion. Our mission is clear: to empower every artist who studies with us to step forward with skill, confidence and a sense of belonging in the ever-evolving world of makeup.

The Society Speaks

“My daughter started the year doing a Cert III with a different provider, she was miserable! Huge class, outdated techniques, on the model day every student looked like a deer in the headlights, the were under prepared and it showed!
After that we did some research on different provider, I found Art of Make Up Society and their Cert III course. I chatted with Jen on the phone and was instantly sold, her passion and enthusiasm were contagious. We signed up immediately.
In just a short period of time, the skills and experiences my daughter has had have been next level and its only going to get better! From working on movie sets to hosting make-up awards, the opportunities ahead are incredible. We’re so grateful we found you!”

JENNIFER - PRINCIPLE & SENIOR EDUCATOR

Jennifer is the heartbeat of The Art of Makeup Society and Principal of GEM College’s Sapphire Campus. A qualified trainer and assessor, she holds a Diploma in Specialised Makeup (2011), a Bachelor of Criminology and Justice (2020), a Certificate III in Business, plus more short courses than she can count. With over 14 years of makeup artistry experience, her knowledge spans both the classroom and the industry floor. But Jennifer is far from your average educator. When she’s not teaching or sharpening her own skills, you’ll probably find her dressed as a clown, scaring people for fun. She’s warm, a little out-of-the-box and never afraid to laugh at herself. Her style of teaching is innovative, hands-on and always delivered with heart. Jennifer doesn’t just train artists, she champions them, making sure every student feels supported, valued and part of the Society from the moment they walk in.

KAREN - ADMINISTRATION & COURSE CO-ORDINATOR

Karen is the organisational powerhouse of our Society. As our Administration and Course Coordinator, she’s the person who keeps everything running smoothly and makes sure students always feel supported. She’s also one of our founders, bringing her unique background and perspective into everything we do. A retired police officer, Karen understands the value of real-world training and the importance of discipline, professionalism and attention to detail. That experience translates seamlessly into the way she guides our students, ensuring their learning is structured, reliable and industry-ready. In her spare time, you’ll find Karen with her grandchildren and family, or brainstorming new ways to make the Society even better. She brings warmth, care and innovation to everything she touches.

TRENT - SPFX EDUCATOR

Trent is the Society’s SPFX guru, the go-to for anything and everything special effects. From sculpting prosthetics to creating larger-than-life characters, his skills cover the entire spectrum of effects artistry. If it can be imagined, Trent can build it. A qualified SPFX artist with years of hands-on experience, Trent is known for teaching others the true art of special effects, breaking down the technical, messy and sometimes chaotic processes into lessons that are fun, practical and unforgettable. Students walk away from his classes not just with skills but with the confidence to push their creativity further than they thought possible. When he’s not leading classes, Trent is busy in his workshop dreaming up new creations, partnering with schools to inspire the next generation of artists or working on local film sets. He’s the guy behind the monsters, the gore, the creatures and the characters and he absolutely loves it.

LAUREN - HAIRSTYLIST

Lauren is an accomplished hair stylist and makeup artist who brings over 15 years of professional industry experience to The Art of Makeup Society. As the founder and CEO of Loe Hair, she has built a respected hair studio and education platform while continuing to work hands on within the industry she is deeply passionate about. Her expertise spans professional hairdressing, bridal and event hairstyling and makeup artistry, allowing students to learn techniques that are both creatively refined and grounded in real world industry practice. Lauren leads the hair units within the course, guiding students through the tools, techniques and professional standards required to produce polished, event ready and production ready hairstyles. Students gain valuable insight from someone who understands the realities of working in the hair and beauty industry. Under her guidance, students are supported, inspired and in very capable hands.
