Honoured to Be Part of Then It Rained

The Art of Makeup Society was recently given the opportunity to take part in the production of Then It Rained, a short film shot on location in Woombye on the Sunshine Coast.

Then It Rained is the second major project from Queensland based production company White Bonnet Films, following their AACTA Award winning debut A Series of Unfortunate Dates. This new film moves into psychological romance drama, following characters Bianca and Darcy as they deal with the emotional fallout ten months after the end of their relationship. It is written and executive produced by Amy Raffe, who also stars as Bianca, alongside co-star Elliott Giarola as Darcy. The film is directed by Mirko Grillini and received production backing from the Sunshine Coast Screen Collective.

For us though, the real story is what this production meant for two of our students.

We were able to bring two of our SHB30221 Certificate III in Makeup students onto set for this production. Trent made the prosthetics for the film and Jennifer worked alongside our students on set, supporting them right through to the end of the shoot. It was a genuinely emotional and beautiful experience for everyone involved and a good reminder of why we do this work.

For one student this was their first IMDB credit. For the other it was their second, having joined us on a production late last year. Opportunities like this continue to come our way and one student in particular has since been asked back for a private production on a paid job off the back of their work on this set.

Chances like this do not come along often. What our students learn on a real set, under real conditions, is something that can never be taught in a classroom. We are grateful to White Bonnet Films for having us involved and proud of what our students brought to the set.
